India faces a significant burden of morbidity and mortality due to the lack of access to medical oxygen. To support OxygenforIndia’s goal of preventing unnecessary deaths due to lack of medical oxygen, CDDEP and OFI, in partnership with other organizations, are working to create a national oxygen grid (NOG) to mitigate oxygen shortages across India during the COVID-19 and beyond.
The premise of the grid is to set up 1500 PSA (pneumatic swing adsorption) plants in mostly peri-urban and rural health care facilities across public and private sectors. The NOG will leverage existing liquid medical oxygen assets, including storage and transportation tanks and incoming assets of pneumatic swing adsorption (PSA) plants, oxygen concentrators, and cylinders.
Dr. Indu Bhushan is co-leading the OxygenForIndia NOG initiative. Dr. Bhushan brings a wealth of experience leading several government initiatives, including the ambitious Ayushman Bharat and National Health Mission.
